The AI Assistant turns plain-language requests into changes on your form. This article explains what the AI Assistant can and can't do, and how to write prompts that get the result you want.
What the AI Assistant can do
You can ask the AI Assistant to build and edit the form itself.
Build and structure a form
- Generate a complete form from a description, a PDF, or a photo
- Add, rename, duplicate, move, and delete fields
- Create, rename, duplicate, and reorder sections
- Add, rename, move, and delete pages
- Split a long page into several pages
- Make a section repeatable
Set up fields
- Add or edit a field
- Set a field as required, hidden, read-only, or disabled
- Set placeholder text, a default value, or a prefix and suffix
- Set character limits, number ranges, and decimal places
- Add, remove, or replace the options in a choice field, and allow multiple selections
Configure field types
- Set photo options, such as quality, annotation, and timestamp
- Set date options, such as allowing time or restricting to past or future dates
- Set location options, such as requiring GPS
- Set a rating scale
- Build a calculation from other fields
Add logic
- Set up rules and skip logic to show, hide, enable, disable, or require fields based on entries
And many other actions.
What the AI Assistant can't do
The AI Assistant works on the form you have open. It doesn't handle tasks outside building the form. For these, use the builder menus or the portal:
| Task | Where to do it |
| Preview, validate, save, or publish the form | The header and right panel |
| Duplicate or delete the whole form | The Actions menu |
| Dispatch the form to users | The portal |
| Set up Global Workflow, Legacy Delivery, or webhooks | The Workflow and Settings menus |
| Connect to Quickbase | The Actions menu |
| Build report templates | The Reports menu |
| Review, filter, or export submissions | The portal |
| Manage users, lists, or account settings | The portal |
How the AI Assistant applies changes
- Changes apply right away. There's no separate approval step. To reverse a change, select Undo.
- Undo is your safety net. The AI Assistant keeps the last 20 changes, so you can undo or redo them.
- It works on the current form only. The AI Assistant has no view of your other forms.
- Invalid rules are skipped. If a rule refers to a field that doesn't exist, the AI doesn't apply it and adds a note in the chat.
Write better prompts
- Be specific. Name the fields and field types you want, such as a single photo field or a dropdown.
- Build in steps. Make one change at a time, then review it. Smaller changes are quicker to undo.
- Scope your request. Select fields on the canvas, then select Assistant, so the AI acts only on those fields.
- Refer to fields by their label. In calculations and rules, the AI matches your words to the right field.
- Attach a paper form. Upload a PDF or photo to have the AI recreate it. Order multiple files so pages read in sequence.
- Use undo freely. If a change isn't right, undo it or ask again.
