Overview
An Asset Layer is a map-based visualization that displays the location of your equipment, resources, or tracked items using data from your FastField Data Tables.
It allows teams to see where assets are located based on their last recorded location, making it easier to monitor, manage, and interact with field resources directly from the Tracking map.
How Asset Layers Work
Asset Layers pull data from a connected Data Table and place each record as a pin on the map. Each pin represents a specific asset (such as a vehicle, tool, or job site).
To appear on the map, each asset must include location data, such as an address, that can be mapped
Once configured, the layer will automatically update as your data changes.
What Can You Track?
Asset Layers are flexible and can be used to track a wide range of resources, including:
- Vehicles and fleet equipment
- Tools and inventory
- Job sites or customer locations
- Field workers (when tied to submissions or tracking data)
- Temporary assets like deliveries or service requests
Key Features
๐ Map-Based Visualization
View all your assets in one place with interactive pins on the Tracking map.
๐ Real-Time or Last Known Location
Assets can reflect live updates or their most recent recorded location depending on how your data is configured.
๐งฉ Data Table Integration
Asset Layers are powered by your existing Data Tables, so you can manage asset details without duplicating data.
๐ Clickable Asset Details
Click on any asset pin to view additional information such as:
- Name or ID
- Status
- Assigned user
- Any custom fields from your Data Table
๐ฏ Layer Control
Toggle Asset Layers on or off to focus on specific types of assets.
When Should You Use an Asset Layer?
Use an Asset Layer when you want to:
- Visualize where assets are located geographically
- Monitor equipment or resources across multiple locations
- Combine asset data with tracking or submission data
- Improve operational awareness for field teams
Example Use Case
A construction company uses an Asset Layer to track heavy equipment across multiple job sites. Each piece of equipment is stored in a Data Table with its location. On the Tracking map, managers can quickly see where each asset is and assign resources more efficiently.
Important Notes
- Asset Layers require location data to display on the map
- Data accuracy depends on how frequently your Data Table is updated
- Asset Layers are available only on Pro plans with Tracking enabled
