Managing large datasets can be overwhelming, but with FastField’s integration with Quickbase, you can filter your data tables directly at the source. By using a Quickbase report as your data table source, you can ensure that only relevant records appear in your forms, eliminating the need for extra filtering within FastField.

Benefits of Filtering Your Data Table at the Source
-
Minimize Data Sets for Better Performance: Only relevant records are displayed within FastField, making forms load faster and easier to navigate.
-
Ensure Accuracy: Reduces the chances of users selecting outdated or irrelevant entries.
-
Eliminate Redundant Filtering in Forms: No need to manually filter the data table within the form itself—everything is already pre-filtered at the source.
-
Improved User Experience: Users see only what’s necessary, preventing clutter and confusion.
Steps on How Filtering Your Data Table Using Quickbase Records
Step 1: Create and Save a Filtered Quickbase Report
-
In Quickbase, navigate to your desired table.
-
Create a new report and apply the necessary filters to narrow down the dataset (e.g., only active projects).
-
Ensure the Key Field (usually Record ID#) is included in the report. You can configure this in the report settings.
-
Save the report.
Step 2: Connect Your Quickbase Report in FastField
-
Open FastField and navigate to Integrations to create a Quickbase integration if you haven't done so. Click here to learn how to Connect FastField to Quickbase.
- After creating a Quickbase Integration, navigate to List then to Data Tables.
- Click on + New Table and select Connect to a Quickbase Table and choose the table where your report is located.
-
Then Select your Quickbase Integration, choose your application, and choose your table.
-
Toggle on Use Report as the Source and select the saved report from Step 1.
Step 3: Select the Lookup Key
-
Choose the Lookup Key, ensuring it matches the Key Field from your Quickbase report (Record ID# or another unique identifier).
-
Give your Table a name and then save. And that's it! Your Quickbase filtered data table has now been created.
Example Use Case
Suppose you manage a list of projects and only need to display active projects in your forms. Instead of manually filtering within FastField, you can set up a Quickbase report that includes only active projects. When you connect this report to your FastField data table, users will only see currently active projects—streamlining the selection process and avoiding unnecessary data.
